New Face Of Veterinary Care. What Can Your Vet DO To Help You and Your Pet in 2015?

The face of veterinary care is changing. We are seeing more and more people become involved and interested in their pets care. What we feed them, (the number and variation in choices are now mind boggling)! Where they take them, (for some of us that is everywhere we go). What we are willing to do for them, (think kidney transplants and brain surgery), and how personally and emotionally we are invested in them.

No one doubts that the bonds between ourselves and our companions is growing stronger and deeper.

As a veterinarian I know this first hand. It is the reason I became a vet.

I became a veterinarian simply to help pets and their people live longer, happier, healthier lives together.

As we head into a new year I hoped that I could get an idea of where everyone was headed with their pet care this year?

So as we head into 2015 I wondered?

1. What could your vet do to help you take better care of your companions?
2. What are some of your biggest fears and worries when it comes to taking care of your companions?
3. Where do you see the biggest unmet need in veterinary medicine?
4. How concerned are you about the cost of keeping, treating, and meeting your pets needs?
5. What do you think should be done to help address clients financial concerns about pet care?

As Jarrettsville Vet heads into 2015 we are doing two things;

1. Accessibility. Our goal is to extend our availability and services outside of normal business hours. So if you find yourself in need of help, guidance, and assistance for either a simple question, like, "What to do with a bleeding broken toenail?" Or, the gut wrenching horrible decision making process about whether you can afford the "$3,000 estimate for emergency surgery." My personal email address is on every Patient Report Card for every pet that is seen at JVC. It is also on our after hours answering machine and even on the front door. Pawbly is moving us forward in this direction also. You can ask a question at anytime to anyone of us in the community, for free, and get lots of answers, also for free. Although Pawbly is not designed to be used in emergency situations we are happy to help you. 
2. Transparency. This is a foreign term in private practice veterinary care. We are a quiet secretive bunch. What used to be humble introverted personas is now business savvy marketing tactics of getting you in the door with a competitive spay/neuter/vaccine price and then making our profits with the extra stuff your pet needed. Like diagnostics, hospitalization, etc.. Medicine has enough inherent unknowns why should the cost of care be one of them? My goal is to help you understand what we recommend, why we recommend it, how much it will cost, and how we can help you take better care of your companions centered around a relationship built on trust and compassion.
